Are you still dialing-up?
Not sure what Broadband service can do for you? Here are some things to look at when considering the change:
- Speed - While dial-up service is ambling along at speeds less than 56Kb, Broadband has sprinted away, leaving dial-up in the dust. Broadband boasts speeds 10 times faster than dial-up.
Although you say you may not mind waiting a little longer for Web pages to load, the reality is that the Web is now geared towards faster connection speeds. Pages are made larger and with more graphics that may never load via dialup. There are also lots of things you can do with broadband that you can’t do with dialup. (See features section below)
- Connectivity – With broadband or high speed the connection to the Internet is always on. This gives you immediate access to service. Even if you shut your computer off, the broadband connection still exists. Once you fire up the PC, you’re back on line immediately. There are no delays.
- Reliability - Broadband is the most reliable Internet connection you can get. With dial-up you may be used to sudden disconnects, slow connect speeds and busy signals when trying to connect. Broadband eliminates these distractions and provides you with a clean, reliable connection all the time.
- Cost - Costs have been getting increasingly competitive. With broadband comes the ability to keep your phone line useable, an aspect in itself that’s worth its weight in gold. Compare providers and make sure you know the monthly ongoing fees. Many companies offer several months at a lower, introductory rate, so be sure to find out.
- Features – Broadband can support lots of high-speed features that dial-up has trouble with, such as:
- Streaming Video
- Audio Clips
- Graphic intense sites
- Photos
- Advanced Gaming
- Podcasting
- Large File Downloads
- VoIP
- Multi-tasking
- Support – With dial-up came very little support. You were never quite sure if those frequent disconnects were somehow your fault. You may have even spent countless time trying to fix your end. With Broadband comes support. There are support contracts available to meet any need. Make sure that you know who is to supply the modem and whether you are leasing it or buying it. Find out how much online support is available and what times. (For instance, if you only use your home PC at night or on weekends, make sure the provider has support to cover these times)
